John Woolliams

I have been interested in photography for about 50 years, on and off, mostly colour slides, but printing digitally for the last 10 years, and using a digital camera for the last five. I like unusual, story telling pictures, and am a ‘hunter - gatherer’ taking mostly whatever takes my eye or sparks my imagination. My favourite photographer is Henri Cartier Bresson, with his marvellous eye for the decisive moment. Although I use the facilities of Photoshop quite a lot I always try to get the picture in one go, the first time. Sometimes however the image or idea in mind requires computer work. However, for me the final picture is what matters, not how it was achieved, and if the computer manipulation shows I feel I have failed, unless of course the effect achieved requires it. Photography is in the mind and eye, and the camera is there simply to record the result. And if it ever ceases to be fun, I shall give it up!
